The are a few ways you can reach the hiking paths to Trolltunga. Tyssedal is the closest town to the starting point. It’s about a 3-hour drive from Bergen and 5- to 6- hour drive from Oslo. If you don’t have a car, you can take a shuttle to and from the Skjeggedal Carpark. If driving, arrive as early as possible, just before 6:00 AM for a spot in the main lot (P2). The parking lot accommodates about 180 cars and costs NOK500 (~$52).

There is also a small, private parking lot which is only open during hiking season called Mågelitopp (P3) that would shave off about 3 hours of your hike. There are only 30 car spaces so you should purchase your ticket and make your reservation here. There are also shuttle services up to Mågelitopp from the Skjeggedal Carpark which will save you 1.5 hours of hiking one-way.

The best time to hike in this area is between June 15th and September 15th, but many have done it as late as October or early as February with a guide. Note that regular temperatures in August are usually in the high 40’s°F (8 – 9°C).

Trolltunga, or Troll’s Tongue, is a series of several short ascents with steep climbing on stone and gravel before the terrain levels out. The entire trail is filled with incredible scenery, so make sure to enjoy it along the way! Note that Trolltunga itself is usually fairly crowded so you may have to wait in line to snap the iconic photo.
