Description:

The photographer posted this photo on September 19, 2019. It’s best to visit at low tide, so that you can see more of the stone formations not covered by water.

Giant’s Causeway is fairly crowded, so plan your trip during the slow season and early or late in the day if you’re trying to capture photos without strangers in the background.

Google Map to “Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre, Causeway Road, Bushmills, UK”. Be aware that you will need to pay the Visitor Centre entrance fee of £13.50 / person to access the parking lot, gift shop, cafe and other visitor’s center amenities. To avoid this exorbitant fee, many people suggest parking around the corner at the Giant’s Causeway & Bushmills Railway, which can be found at 6 Runkerry Rd, Bushmills BT57 8SZ, United Kingdom, for only £6 / vehicle.

If you are able to find free parking farther away, you can walk straight through the Giant’s Causeway parking lot and access the stones for free.

From the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre, follow the main path north about .5 miles / 1 km through the tunnel down to the shore to see the stone formations pictured above. You also have the option to ride a bus to and from the stones for about £1 / person each way. Some people prefer this option if the wind is a little heavy, but otherwise it should only take about 10 minutes to walk on your own.

Some people suggest walking the “red” trail that allows you a gorgeous view of the Giant’s Causeway from above. If you’re standing in front of the visitor’s center, you’ll see the red trail on your right. After hiking 1 mile / 1.6 km to the top and taking some photos, just walk down the 100 stairs to the stone formations, and you can walk the normal path back to the visitor’s center from there.
