Description:
The photographer took this photo on November 9, 2020.
Devil’s Den Prehistoric Spring is a hidden gem in the middle of Florida. The water in this 33-million-year-old underground spring remains a cool 72° year-round and guests are permitted to explore the spring by snorkeling or scuba diving (no swimming without snorkeling gear is allowed).
Reservations are usually required but are always a good idea, as Devil’s Den is a popular tourist destination. You can make reservations for a 1.5-hour snorkeling slot on the Devil’s Den website, though each snorkeler much reserve his or her own slot individually. Payment is not required until you arrive at the front desk. The entrance fee is $15 / person Monday-Friday and $22 / person on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Snorkeling equipment rental costs an extra $12 and includes snorkel, mask and fins.
Google Map to “Devil’s Den Prehistoric Spring” at 5390 NE 180 Ave, Williston, FL 32696. There is a free parking lot at the spring and it is just a short walk to the front office where you can pay for your reservation and pick up your snorkeling equipment. From there you’ll be directed to a tunnel entrance to a narrow staircase that goes down into the spring.
You will need to leave your belongings on a picnic table outside, so don’t bring any valuables with you! Photos are allowed inside the spring, but you may want to bring a waterproof phone case to protect your phone. Don’t forget to follow the walkway that goes around the outside of the spring to get a view into the spring from the “hole” above (see pictures below)!
There are restrooms at the spring as well as hot showers and changing rooms.
