Description:
The photographer posted this photo on January 30, 2019. Morning is the best time to visit Animal Flower Cave, as you are less likely to have to wait in line to see the caves.
Animal Flower Cave was named for the small tube worms that live in the rock crevices. When they open up they look like flowers, and when they close they retreat back into their tubes. Unfortunately, there are only a few animal flowers left at the cave. Regardless, the cave is still a natural wonder and worth a visit.
Note that the cave’s opening hours and days are variable, so check animalflowercave.com before your trip to ensure that it will be open on the day you plan to visit.
Google Map to “Animal Flower Cave” in Saint Lucy, Barbados. It will be located right at the northern tip of the island. There is a restaurant at the clifftop where you will be able to purchase a guided tour of the caves. The tours leave every 10-15 minutes and cost $25 BBD / Adult (~$12.50 USD), $10 BBD / Child 5-12 (~$5 USD) and are free for children under 5.
Behind the restaurant atop the cliff, you will embark on a short but steep walk down 27 very slippery steps into the caves. There you will be given 30-60 minutes (depending how busy it is) to explore the caves and even take a dip in the refreshing water, so bring a swimsuit and towel if you plan to do that. Water shoes with traction are highly recommended, as the cave is extremely wet, and slippery, and can be dangerous if you fall.
The view from atop the cliffs is spectacular as well.
